Description

Beware the doorbell !  -- just how many of these boxes were sent out nobody knows, nor is it known to which addresses they're heading.

                           --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TECHNIQUE--- pencil drawn first then inked over on Bristol board -->   swiftly into Photoshop for some colour and tweakment--> tadaa! ---> end result as seen above.
TIME TO COMPLETE ---from brainstorming and to the actual finished  inked drawing on paper about 5 hours . Scanned, all tidied,  line separation and then throwing down the colour took me around the 6 hours mark -- for the final touches and adjustments add another hour or two.
Approximately all in all it took about 11 to 13 hours to complete---- ( sorry I can't be more precise than this but its tricky to see the clock through the masks' eye holes.)
INSPIRATION and IDEA --- I love the idea of how masks and make up transform a person into a new character and I wanted to attempt a three panel story rather than just show a person or object shifting form in three stages.
It starts with the most sunniest of moments < cue relaxing piano music >  innocent playtime with a kitty and a flower, then mystery box arrives  upon opening... the friendly face and playful scene are both transformed into one of abject  HORROR! Just from the act of donning a mask our subject now believes he's a monster.

I tried to shift from one setting to the other by using brighter colours in the first panel and then moving over to darker touches for the end one , to help transform from the happy and carefree to the dark and unsettled, while at the same time going from the good to evil, skinny to bloated, heck I even went from vegetarian to meat eating such was the transformation in this strip.
When doing the final detailing to this image in the first frame where the angel's wings should be I applied a fluffy cloud texture using a photograph that I took from an aeroplane window, I was aiming to add some ethereal floaty qualities here.  Meanwhile over in panel number three --  I'd recently visited a dark basement where there were freezers containing 16 dead bodies. I used the photograph I took of this room to add some harsh straight marks to contrast with the softer elements of the clouds that i used at the start, hopefully it adds a dash of doom to the proceedings too.

                    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSION --- DO NOT PLAY with mysterious boxes near cats.
